1939 Gum, Inc. "War News Pictures" SGC MINT 96 Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $822.50
Extraordinary ultra-high grade collection of three different 1939 "War News Pictures" bubble-gum cards issued by Gum, Inc., each graded MINT 96 by SGC. These cards are essentially perfect. Even though they are graded MINT 96, these cards are so sharp, they might be conservatively graded! (We're sort of kidding around, but they're really that sharp.) The exceptionally colorful graphics and popular subject matter of this issue make it one of the all-time classics of nonsport sets from the 1930s. Each card has brilliant colors with four razor-sharp corners and near-perfect centering. This collection of spectacular MINT examples consists of the following: #50 "German Submarine," 57 "French Tank in Action," and 88 "Polish Soldiers...." As of this writing, these are the only "War News Pictures" to have ever been graded MINT 96, and no cards have been graded GEM 98 or Pristine 100. All three of the cards in this lot are the highest-graded examples to date. We have found that at auction cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than guide prices, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets. This is an extremely high-grade collection of three 1939 "War News Pictures" cards, each the highest-graded and finest example known to exist. Total 3 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
