1935 to 1957 Non-Sport Aviation Complete Set Collection (24 sets, 944 cards)

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00

Collection of twenty-four high-quality complete (or near-complete) non-sport sets, all issued between 1935 and 1957, and all related to aviation. Aviation has long been a very popular subject for cards. This is a very unusual and high-quality collection that is striking both for the scarcity and diversity of many of the sets included. These classic sets, which were issued by many different companies, are rarely seen in the form of a collection. These sets are naturally popular with nonsport card collectors, and also appeal very much to general collectors of military and aviation related items. 1-2) 1939-1940 Heinz "Famous Airplanes" (series 1) two complete sets (each set 25 cards): Both sets are 55% Ex, 35% Vg-Ex, 10% Vg. 3) Circa 1939-1940 Heinz "Famous Airplanes" (series 2) near-complete set (19 of 25): Fourteen cards grade Ex, five are Vg-Ex. 4) 1935 Wings Cigarettes Series C complete set (50): 90% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 10% Ex. 5-6) two 1942 Coca-Cola "America's Fighting Planes in Action" complete sets (each 20 cards): Both are 85% Ex to Ex-Mt, 15% lesser. 7-8) two 1950s Tydol - Veedol "Airplanes" complete sets (each 40 cards): Both are 90% Ex to Ex-Mt, 10% lesser. 9) 1956 Topps "Jets" low-number complete set (#1-120): 55% Ex, 35% Vg-Ex, 10% Vg. 10) 1957 Quaker Pack-O-Ten "Warplanes" complete set (27): Nr/Mt. 11-12) two 1950s "New Jet Planes" Exhibits complete sets (each 64 cards, except one set is missing one card #38): 85% Ex to Ex-Mt, 15% Vg-Ex. 13-16) four 1950s Richfield "Airplanes" complete sets (each 12 cards): Two of the complete sets are mounted, as intended, in the original albums made to store the cards. Two of the sets are not mounted and include the albums. Playing Card Games: 17) Navy Aircraft "Squadron Insignia" (35 cards): 95% Vg-Ex to Ex, 5% lesser. 18) 1941 "Zoom" (36 cards): Ex-Mt. 19-21) three Squadron Scramble Card Game No. 1 (each 52 cards): All Excellent overall. 22-24) three Squadron Scramble Card Game No. 2 (each 52 cards): All Excellent overall. This is a fascinating advanced collection of this interesting genre. These aviation-related sets were assembled over a twenty-year span by a longtime advanced collector. Total 944 cards representing twenty-four sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
