1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Red Background

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,762.50

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Exceptionally attractive high-grade example of one of the four classic poses of Ty Cobb from the T206 White Borders series. The T206 portrait of Ty Cobb set against a brilliant red background is considered by many collectors to be his single most classic card. It is one of the most recognizable and popular of all vintage baseball cards. This is a tremendous example with an even stronger eye appeal than suggested by its very respectable and technically accurate SGC grade. The card is bright and crisp, both front and back, with a deep, red background, perfect registration, and just the lightest, even corner wear (predominately the upper and lower left). The centering is virtually perfect (approximately 52/48 L/R). The Sweet Caporal ad on the reverse is centered to the right and very clean. This is an extremely desirable grade for this classic card, providing a relatively affordable alternative to a far more expensive super high-grade example, without compromising on all of the most important qualities of the card. We don't think anyone could ever ask for a finer example for the grade. This is an outstanding Excellent condition example of one of vintage-card collecting's great classics. The equivalent SMR value is $1,750. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
