1909-1911 T206 Hal Chase SGC-Graded Collection - All Five Different Poses (5)

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50

Complete set of all five Hal Chase poses from the classic T206 White Border series, each graded and encapsulated by SGC. Chase was, in fact, a major star of the day, but his involvement with gambling and with unsavory characters undermined his legend, and ensured that he would forever remain a "non-Hall of Famer." He had been accused of throwing games numerous times; it is universally agreed (both then and now) that these accusations were well founded. He "retired" following the 1919 season after being implicated in the Black Sox scandal. Still, his charisma and his Hall of Fame caliber ability (when he wasn't throwing games) won him many fans, and makes him one of the most interesting players of his era. 1) Hal Chase Holding trophy pose (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded EX 60. Bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, flawless registration, a little corner wear and centered approximately 40/60 top to bottom. 2) Hal Chase Blue background portrait (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded NM 84. Perfectly clean both front and back, with a striking and flawless bold blue background, a crisp image, four sharp corners with just a hint of wear at the tips, and centered 25/75 top to bottom. 3) Hal Chase Pink background portrait (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG/EX 50. Perfectly centered, with even wear to the corners, and bold red printing on the reverse. 4) Hal Chase Dark cap pose (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded EX+ 70. Bright and crisp, with even wear to all four corners, bold colors, virtually perfect registration, and a very slight diamond cut. 5) Hal Chase White cap pose (Sweet Caporal reverse) graded VG/EX 50. Centered to the right (approx. 70/30 L/R), with even wear on the corners, and perfectly clean reverse. This is a very attractive medium- to high-grade collection of classic Hal Chase tobacco cards, representing all five Chase cards in the T206 set. The equivalent SMR value for the five cards is $1,125. Total 5 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
