1909-1911 T206 White Border "Black Sox" Collection (2)
Starting Bid - $100.00 , Sold For - $1,410.00
Pair of T206 tobacco cards (Ed Cicotte and Chick Gandil). These are the only cards of future banned Chicago "Black Sox" players to appear in the T206 set. Cicotte and Gandil were each accomplished players but Cicotte, in particular, was a major star, and might have even wound up in the Hall of Fame had he not been banned from baseball for his role in throwing the 1919 World Series. His lifetime record was 209-149. Both cards are graded and encapsulated EX 60 by SGC. This is a very attractive pair of extremely noteworthy cards from the most popular tobacco-card issue of the 1910 era. Each exhibits four square corners and is crisp and clean, with extremely strong colors. Both of these cards display as pack-fresh gems. Cicotte is centered approximately 35/65 left to right, with a Sweet Caporal advertisement on the back. The Gandil is centered slightly to the lower left, with a Tolstoi reverse. Total 2 cards. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
