1910 E90-2 American Caramel Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $6,462.50
Graded VG 3 by GAI. Stunning example of this very scarce and popular card which is so similar in appearance to the famous T206 Wagner and dates from the same era. Honus did not want to encourage youngsters to smoke but had no problem with promoting candy. The "Flying Dutchman" is the key card in the 1910 E90-2 American Caramel set. This is an exceptionally attractive example in a very interesting and desirable grade. The front of the card is a strong Excellent. The back has a small area of paper loss which is solely responsible for the modest grade. Very well centered, with outstanding color, perfect registration, an extremely bold blue background, and no creases. The card has light, even corner wear (a little more rounded in the lower right), and is appropriately downgraded by GAI due to the small area of paper loss in the lower left corner on the otherwise flawless reverse. This card obviously has a much stronger appearance than its assigned grade. This is an exceptional mid-grade example of one of prewar card collecting's most desirable and classic cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
