1909-1911 E254 Colgan's Chips Ty Cobb SGC NM/MT 88

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,997.50

Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Extraordinary ultra high-grade E254 Colgan’s Chips card of Ty Cobb. This is an extreme rarity in such high grade. SGC has only graded two examples at this level (with none higher). This is one of Ty Cobb's most unusual and striking cards, from one of the era's most distinctive sets. This card is also noteworthy as it features the very same Carl Horner portrait as appears on Cobb's T206 card. Perfectly clean both front and back, and with a crisp, flawless image, and perfect centering to the advertisement on reverse. Colgan's obviously don't have corner wear, but it is a miracle there is not even the slightest hint of edge wear from normal handling. Cobb, of course, is one of the key stars of the set. This is a beautiful high-grade example of one of Ty Cobb’s most classic and unusual cards. The equivalent SMR value is $2,000. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,997.50
