1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cuts New York Giants Collection (2)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,762.50
Two 1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cuts, each a New York Giants player (two of the eleven for a complete team subset): 1) Red Murray (appears to have a few fine line shadows, otherwise Vg-Ex, a sharp, rare, overall problem-free sample with folding flaps intact) and 2) Cy Seymour (Vg-Ex due to a light crease across the neck, and small stain on the reverse, otherwise Ex, with original folding flaps complete and never folded). These are in high grade for E125s, and were the only two high-grade examples from a larger collection of Giants players consigned to this auction from a noncollecting family in Mississippi. (The balance are presented in a separate lot in this auction.) Distributed by the American Caramel Co. circa 1910, E125 die-cuts are so rare that the set was not even catalogued until the late 1960s. They were apparently issued one card per box of caramels, and vary slightly in size from card to card, depending on the player’s pose. Most are approximately 7 inches high and 4 inches wide. The cards are designed with small moving parts, which fold back to allow players to stand. This is an outstanding high-grade pair of these almost-never-seen early candy cards, which have an unparalleled display value, and are held in the highest regard by serious collectors of 1910-era candy cards. Total 2 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
