1910 T212 Obak SGC-Graded Collection (88)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $3,818.75
Collection of 88 different (50% of the set) 1910 T212 Obak Cigarettes “175 Subjects” cards, each graded and encapsulated by SGC. Obaks are among the most popular of all early card issues featuring players from the Pacific Coast League. While catalogued simply as T212, Obaks were actually issued over a period of three years, from 1909 to 1911, and are really three sets. The 1910 and 1911 Obak sets, in addition to featuring players from the six PCL teams, also feature players from the four-team Northwestern League. The 1910 set cards are easily distinguished by the blue printing on their backs with a less ornate font than the 1909 cards. Most of the cards are bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, perfect registration, and with a much better appearance than suggested by their SGC-assigned grades. SGC condition report: Two EX 60: Cartwright and Curshaw. Seven VG/EX 50: Blankenship, Brashear, Criger, Davis, Flood, Fournier, Seaton (Seattle). Thirty-nine VG 40: Ames, Armbuster, Baker, Baum, Breen, Brinker, Brown (Vancouver), Browning, Byrd, Caslleton, Chenault, Christian, Coy, Fisher (Portland), Gaddy, Hall (Tacoma), Hendrix, Hollis, Jansing, Jensen, Keener, Killilay, Kippert, Lewis (SF), Miller (Seattle), Nagle, Orendorff, Perrine, Persons, Raymond, Rockenfield, Ryan, Shaw, Spiesman, Swain, Van Buren, Vitt, Warren, Weed. Twenty-five GOOD 30: Bassey, Bennett, Brown (Vernon), Byrnes, Custer, Dretchko, Eastley, Flannagan, Greggs, Griffin, Hunt, James, Johnston, Kusel, McArdle, Olson, Raymer, Ryan, Schmutz, Shea, Shinn, Smith, H. Smith, Streib, Thorsen. Eight FAIR 20: Akin, Boardman, Erickson, Hitt, Mott, Netzel, Tozer, Zackert. Four POOR 10: Bernard, Frisk, Gardner, Speas. Three Authentic: Garrett, Martinke, Nourse. The majority of cards in this collection have been downgraded due to very minor flaws which do not affect the outstanding eye appeal displayed by these increasingly popular PCL tobacco cards. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a very attractive and rather large collection of these early classics, representing exactly 50% of a complete set. Total 88 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,818.75
