1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,231.25
Graded G-VG 2.5 by GAI. Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet card series: #9 Ty Cobb. Besides being the most valuable card in the set, it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and crisp, very clean, both front and back, with bold colors, no major creases in the image area (small creases only in the corners), some light edge and corner wear, and centered slightly to the lower right (60/40). The checklist back is clean and also centered to the lower left (reflecting the centering of the front). The card has a Vg-Ex appearance but has been downgraded by GAI due to centering and the tiniest pinhole in the extreme edge of the right border towards the top (much smaller than a pinhole, really, and virtually impossible to see unless the card is held up to strong light; it's easier to locate when looking at the reverse). Technically in Good to Vg condition, this card has a much better overall appearance than its assigned grade. This is a very attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable mid-grade. The classic Turkey Red set is considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. The T3 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a relatively affordable mid-grade example such as this that presents so much better than its technical grade.
