1912 T202 Hassan Triple Folders Near-Complete Set (118/132)

Starting Bid - $10,000.00 , Sold For - $21,150.00

The beautiful lithography, the great number of stars represented, and the unique design of T202 Hassan Triple Folders combine to make it one of the most highly regarded of all baseball card sets of the era. Offered is a near-complete set of this classic tobacco-card issue (118 different cards) missing just fourteen cards for completion. Included are all five Ty Cobbs, five Christy Mathewsons, two Walter Johnsons, Tris Speaker, Cy Young, and literally dozens of stars and additional Hall of Famers. The fourteen cards missing for completion are #2 Pelty/Wallace, 44 Devlin-Giants/Mathewson, 59 Engle/Speaker, 106 Speaker/Wood, 125 Devlin-Giants/Mathewson, 126 Devlin-Rustlers/Mathewson, 131 Austin/Stovall (Cobb Stealing Third), and commons #54, 87, 89, 93, 123, 124, and 128. T202s are unnumbered. In the following condition composite, identifying card numbers are referenced from the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. Twenty-two cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA (11) or SGC (11) . Please note that the grading companies are notoriously hard on T202s due to the "spider creases" which naturally occur along the folds of the side panels, as well as roller marks that are so common to the issue. These natural manufacturing flaws result in particularly harsh grading by both PSA and SGC. The PSA- and SGC-graded cards in this near-set have superior eye-appeal, with virtually all cards presenting far nicer than suggested by their technically accurate grades. PSA Condition Report (11 cards): #3 Cobb/O'Leary (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6; Bright and crisp, with snow-white borders, four sharp corners, and vibrant colors. Centered 70/30 T/B), 8 Baker/Collins (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6), 14 Bresnahan/Oakes (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6), 31 Bender/Thomas (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6), 41 (PSA EX-MT 6), 43 (PSA EX-MT 6), 70 (PSA EX-MT 6), 100 (PSA EX-MT 6), 104 Chase/Wolter (PSA EX-MT 6), 105 Clarke/Miller (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6), and 116 Brown/Graham (HOF, PSA EX-MT 6).
