1913 WG6 Tom Barker Game Cards Complete Set Minus One Card (51/52)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00 , Sold For - $7,637.50

Addendum: In the printed catalog, the description describes this lot as a complete set of 52 cards. This is an error. It is missing one card: Frank Baker.

Presented is an exceptional newly discovered extremely high-grade complete set of all fifty-two 1913 "Tom Barker Game" cards, less one card (see addendum above) accompanied by the original box and instructions. This game-card set is comprised of forty-two different individual players and nine action photos. "Tom Barker Baseball" cards are nearly identical in design to "The National Game" card set except for the different back design, which is in red and features a batter and advertising for "Tom Barker Baseball." All the greatest stars of the era are represented, including Joe Jackson, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Cy Young, and many more. We have selected twelve cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. The PSA grades are as follows: One MINT 9: Bender. Nine NM-MT 8: Chance, Cobb, Jackson, Johnson, Mack, Mathewson, McGraw, Speaker, and Young. One NM 7: Wagner. One EX 5: Marquard. The balance of the cards are in similar high-grade to the selection of twelve PSA-graded cards. Additional Hall of Famers include Alexander, Bresnahan, Clarke, Crawford, Evers, Griffith, Lajoie, Tinker, Jennings, Wheat, Huggins, and Walsh. This is a very attractive deck which has survived in virtually perfect condition, with cards having obviously never been used for play. This set represents one of the most outstanding values of all 1910-era baseball sets. This is a stunning high-grade complete "Tom Barker" set (less one card). In our experience, "Tom Barker" cards are considerably rarer than "The National Game" style cards. The set is accompanied by the original four-page instruction booklet (Ex-Mt condition) and the original box (Poor condition but a great complimentary item to the set). Total 51 of 52 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $7,637.50
