1928 Tharp’s Ice Cream Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,762.50
Graded VG 3 by PSA. A very attractive key card to the set of 1928 Tharp’s featuring the legendary Hall of Famer Babe Ruth in a pitching pose. In 1928, Ruth was having a successful career with the New York Yankees but it is interesting to note that Ruth is actually pictured in a Boston Red Sox uniform on this card. The set is identical in design to several other contemporary ice cream sets (Harrington's, Yeungling’s, Sweetman, etc.), but with advertising for Tharp's Ice Cream on the reverse. Bright and clean, both front and back, with just a hint of border toning and even wear to the corners. The card has a light crease in the upper right corner and is centered approximately 40/60 left to right. Few cards of Ruth date from the 1920s. The modest production quality of most cards in this era has kept these cards relatively affordable, though the excellent value they represent and the distinctiveness of these issues have earned them a growing appreciation among advanced collectors in recent years. This is very affordable high-quality card dating from the heart of Ruth’s legendary Hall of Fame career. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
