1933 R305 Tattoo Orbit Complete SGC-Graded Set (60)
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $6,462.50
Presented is a very attractive complete set of R305 Tattoo Orbit cards. The complete set of all sixty cards has been graded in its entirety by SGC. Forty-seven cards range in grade from Vg to Excellent, and thirteen cards grade Pr to Gd (one deemed authentic with no numerical grade). Their striking colors, unusual size (2 x 2.25 inches), and rarity compared to other 1930s sets make "Tattoo Orbits" one of the most fascinating, distinctive, and difficult-to-complete of all sets from the 1930s. This classic 1930s gum card set, issued by the Orbit Gum Co. of Chicago (a subsidiary of Wrigley’s) in 1933, includes seventeen Hall of Famers and three short print cards. This is a very carefully assembled set, put together one card at a time, with a concern not just for technical condition, but for the overall eye-appeal of each card. Even the few lowest-graded cards in the set each have a far superior appearance than that suggested by their assigned SGC grades. This is a beautiful set! SGC Condition Report : Twelve EX 60: Andrews (short print), Fonseca, Grube, Harder, Hartnett (HOF), W. Herman (HOF), Hornsby (HOF, short print), Martin, Reynolds, Root, Seeds, and Warneke. Ten VG/EX 50: Averill (HOF), Bush, Campbell, Dean (HOF), Grimes (HOF), Hallahan, Johnson, Malone, Stephenson, and Walberg. Twenty-five VG 40: Berger, Blaeholder (short print), Burns, Clark, Cochrane (HOF), Cuyler (HOF), Earnshaw, Foxx (HOF), Grimm, Haas, Hadley (short print), Haines (HOF), B. Herman, Jolley, Kamm, Koenig, Levey, Lucas, Lyons (HOF), Mack (HOF), McManus, O’Doul, Porter, Simmons (HOF), and Whitney. Three GOOD 30: Grove (HOF), Jurges, and Lombardi (HOF). Five FAIR 20: Bartell, Cissell, English, Hafey (HOF), and Tinning. Four POOR 10: Alexander, Dykes, Vosmik, and P. Waner (HOF). One Authentic: Collins. This is an exceptionally attractive and very rarely offered complete set of this unusual, and extremely substantial, 1930s gum issue. Total 60 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000.
