1935 UM7 Rice-Stix Complete Set - Dizzy and Daffy Dean (2)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00
Complete set of two cards issued by St. Louis Clothing manufacturer Rice-Stix, featuring Paul and Dizzy Dean. This is one of the rarest, most colorful, unusual, and highest-quality card sets of the era. Few card issues of any era can compare with the beauty and production quality of Rice-Stix cards. They are often overlooked by collectors, primarily because they are so rare, but also because the set has just two cards. Both of these cards are exceptionally strong examples, and each has been graded and encapsulated by SGC. Dizzy’s card has been graded EX+ 70 by SGC, and his brother Daffy’s has been very harshly graded VG 40. (It has a much stronger appearance, very similar to the EX+ Dizzy Dean, but apparently has been downgraded due to a very light and insignificant stain on the left border). When Paul “Daffy” Dean joined his brother “Dizzy” on the Cardinals in 1934, Dizzy predicted that, between them, they would win 45 games. Incredibly, his boast was an underestimate, as the brothers went on to win a combined 49 games! The Deans carried their excellence into the 1934 World Series, where they accounted for all four of the Cardinals’ wins. These rare cards were produced not long after their World Series heroics. This is an extremely desirable and very seldom offered set of these striking cards, featuring the most famous sibling pitching duo in baseball history. Total 2 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
