1949 Leaf #3 Babe Ruth PSA EX-MT 6

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,350.00

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. A very attractive high-grade example of this Babe Ruth classic. The 1949 Leaf Bubble Gum card of Ruth is one of the most popular and striking of all Babe Ruth cards. It is on virtually every short list of the most classic and recognizable of all postwar baseball cards. The cards manufactured by Leaf Gum Co. in 1948 and 1949 are sometimes technically in high grade, but with serious problems related to the unusual and often inconsistent Leaf printing process. The offered card is an exceptional example. The clean, white borders of the card frame a virtually flawless image which is centered just a touch to the bottom right (approximately 60/40 L/R and T/B) All four corners appear Nr/Mt at first glance; only close inspection with a high-powered lens reveals just a hint of wear at the extreme tips of the corners. The reverse is clean and free of staining and excess print. If not for centering, this gem would most likely receive a Nr/Mt or better grade. This is a very attractive example of one of the icons of postwar card collecting. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $1,500. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,350.00
