1944-1963 Hall of Fame Black-and-White Postcard Collection - Albertype and Artvue Cards (132)

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $705.00

Hall of Fame black-and-white postcards were only produced between the years 1944 and 1963, during which time a total of ninety-five different players were issued. Two companies manufactured the cards for the Hall of Fame over that twenty-year span: Albertype (1944-1952) and Artvue (1953-1963). Offered here are forty-six different Albertype cards, and eighty-six different Artvue cards, for a total of 132 Hall of Fame black-and-white postcards. It should be noted that Albertype cards were produced in two types. The first type, known as Type 1, was produced in 1944 and 1945. The second type, known as Type 2, was produced from 1946 through 1952. The only difference between the two types is the the lettering along the front base. Type 1 cards read "National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum - Cooperstown, N. Y.," while Type 2 cards read "National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum - Cooperstown, New York." Thirty-eight different Albertype Type 1 cards were produced from 1944 through 1945, and sixty-two different Albertype Type 2 cards were produced between the years 1946 and 1952. Albertype Type 1 Cards (9): Brouthers, Bulkeley, Cartwright, Duffy, B. Johnson, Kelly, O'Rourke, Spalding, and G. Wright. All of the Artvue cards are lightly to moderately toned and display areas of adhesive residue on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album (three cards with minor areas of discoloration on the front). These B&W Hall of Fame postcards have always been appreciated as special by autograph collectors, but are just being discovered by card collectors and appreciated for their scarcity. This is a very substantial group that happened to be saved by an old-time autograph collector. Total: 132 postcards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $705.00
