1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle SGC EX/NM 80
Starting Bid - $5,000.00 , Sold For - $35,250.00
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Absolutely stunning, extraordinarily crisp, attractive, clean, ultra high-grade example of 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. This card is graded 80 EX/MT by SGC, but the only reason the card is not graded an SGC 88 NM/MT or SGC 92 NM/MT+ (as communicated to us by SGC) is because of the left-to-right centering, which is a very common problem with 1952 Topps Mickey Mantles. This card is a BLAZER. This is a magnificent pack-fresh example with brilliant colors. The deep blue background, which is so prone to wear, is exceptionally strong and virtually unimprovable. The white interlocking "NY" on the front of Mickey's cap contrasts sharply against the dark navy blue of his cap. The corners are extremely strong and razor sharp, each approaching MINT territory. Centered 70/30 left to right and 50/50 top and bottom. If not for the centering, this card would be one of the hobby's highest-graded examples of the card. This is a great 1952 Topps Mantle! Not only does the card look beautiful (aside from centering it basically has an approximately MINT appearance), the effect of centering on the technical grade makes this card far more affordable, and a far better value. Collectors would normally not think it was possible to purchase a 1952 Topps Mantle of this quality without spending many times what this card lists for in this grade. Every card is different. This 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle presents a particularly interesting collecting opportunity. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Topps rookie card is the key to the 1952 Topps set, one of the most famous of all cards, and the single most popular and valuable postwar baseball card. We believe that this gem is one of the 1952 Topps Mantle cards from the legendary Al Rosen 1952 Topps high-number find of 1985. This is a spectacularly bright, fresh, clean, example of Mickey Mantle's most celebrated card, in an extremely desirable grade. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $20,000. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000+. SOLD FOR $35,250.00
