1953 Topps Complete Set (274)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00 , Sold For - $16,450.00

62% range from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (averaging Nr/Mt), 38% Ex (includes a very few cards slightly lesser). This is an extremely high quality complete set of 1953 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball card sets. This 1953 Topps set was assembled one card at a time by a prominent and very dedicated condition-conscious collector in the 1970s and has not seen the light of day since. We have selected thirty-three cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Robinson (Vg-Ex), 10 Burgess SP (Ex), 27 Campanella (PSA EX-MT 6), 37 Mathews (slightly trimmed, otherwise Ex-Mt), 41 Slaughter (Ex-Mt), 43 McDougald SP (Ex), 54 Feller (PSA EX 5), 61 Wynn SP (Ex-Mt), 62 Irvin (Vg-Ex/Ex), 76 Reese (PSA EX-MT 6), 77 Mize (Ex-Mt), 78 Schoendienst (Ex-Mt), 81 Black SP (Ex), 82 Mantle (PSA EX-MT 6), 86 Martin SP (Ex), 87 Lopat SP (Ex), 104 Berra (PSA EX-MT 6), 114 Rizzuto (PSA EX 5), 119 Sain SP (Ex), 138 Kell (Vg-EX/Ex), 147 Spahn (PSA EX 5), 149 DiMaggio (Ex-Mt), 151 Wilhelm SP (Ex), 162 Kluszewski SP (Ex-Mt), 191 Kiner (Ex-Mt), 207 Ford (80/20 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 220 Paige (PSA VG-EX 4), 228 Newhouser SP (Ex-Mt), 244 Mays (PSA EX 5), 246 Face (70/30 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 254 Roe (Vg-Ex/Ex), 258 Gilliam SP (30/70 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 263 Podres SP (Ex, bordering on Ex-Mt), 264 Woodling (PSA EX-MT 6), 265 Jensen SP (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 273 Haddix SP (20/80 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), and 280 Bolling SP (Ex). The other PSA-graded cards consist of the following: Two NM-MT 8: #53 and 242. Ten NM 7: #6, 30, 31, 34, 49, 219, 250, 262, 269, and 274. Four EX-MT 6: #25, 26, 35, and 167. Seven EX 5: #5, 50, 55, 63, 67, 106, and 173. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1953 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally strong high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye appeal across the board. SMR value for just the thirty-three graded cards alone (not including the 241 ungraded cards) is $5,064. Total 274 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$8,000. SOLD FOR $16,450.00
