1955 Topps Complete Set (206)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00 , Sold For - $12,925.00

Exceptionally high-grade complete set of the classic 1955 Topps baseball set. Of the 206 cards in the set, 61 (30%) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA, including many of the key cards (Mantle, Clemente, Mays, and Koufax). This is a beautiful, very carefully assembled set. Most cards are both sharp and extremely well centered. The 1955 Topps set is highlighted by all the stars and Hall of Famers of the era, including everyone from Aaron to Williams, and features the rookie cards of Sandy Koufax, Roberto Clemente, and Harmon Killebrew, all in brilliant, stunning color, and in an exciting then brand new horizontal design. The PSA grades are as follows: Thirty-eight cards are graded NM/MT 8: #9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, 31 Spahn (HOF), 35, 42, 43, 44, 51, 52, 53, 61, 62, 65, 67, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 79, 85, 96, 102, 108, 139, 144, 171, 184, 187 Hodges, and 194 Mays (HOF, [OC]). Eighteen cards are graded NM 7: #2 Williams (HOF), 6, 8, 23, 32, 37, 39, 59, 78, 84, 87, 99, 100 Irvin (HOF), 103, 120 Kluszewski, 123 Koufax RC (HOF, bright and crisp, with four sharp corners, bold colors, and centered 35/65 L/R and 60/40 T/B), 124 Killebrew RC (HOF), and 148. Six cards are graded EX-MT 6: #1 Rhodes, 28 Banks (HOF), 113, 164 Clemente RC (pack-fresh example, with vibrant colors, flawless gloss, four sharp corners, snow-white borders, and centered 70/30 L/R and 80/20 T/B. Very nice card!), 177, and 178. Keys: #4 Kaline (Ex), 47 Aaron (Ex-Mt), 50 Robinson (10/90 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 92 Zimmer RC (90/10 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 125 Boyer RC (90/10 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 152 Agganis RC (Vg-Ex), 155 Mathews (80/20 T/B, otherwise Ex), 189 Rizzuto (80/20 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 198 Berra (80/20 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), and 210 Snider (99/1 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt). The 144 cards which have not been encapsulated are comprised primarily of commons. The condition of the not-yet-encapsulated cards is also extremely strong: 85% range in grade from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt condition (includes a few Nr/Mt-Mt), and 15% Ex (includes just a few slightly lesser). It is expensive to encapsulate a complete set with hundreds of cards, but the investment of grading sixty-one cards is already done, which for a 206-card set is an extremely substantial selection. This a very carefully assembled complete set of this classic 1950s issue with tremendous eye-appeal. This set obviously has tremendous break value. The SMR value for just sixty-one of the PSA-graded cards (not including the #194 Mays NM-MT 8 [OC] and the 145 ungraded cards) is $7,495. Total 206 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$8,000+.
