1955 Rodeo Meats Athletics Uncut Sheet

Starting Bid - $1,500.00 , Sold For - $8,812.50

Extraordinary uncut sheet of 1955 Rodeo Meats featuring 25 cards, including Bobby Schantz (incorrect spelling), Lou Boudreau, Vic Power (pink), and Cloyd Boyer (blue). This rare regional issue features exclusively Kansas City Athletics players, and was issued to commemorate the inaugural year of the Athletics in Kansas City. This is the only uncut sheet of Rodeo Meats we have ever seen or heard of and may be the only surviving example. The sales history of this sheet is well documented: This gem was originally purchased at Sotheby's October 1992 Sports Memorabilia sale, where it appeared as Lot #277; the original purchaser at that Sotheby's sale then consigned it to REA's 2004 sale (where it appeared as Lot #234 and sold for $6,325). The buyer in our 2004 auction has now decided to offer this unique item in this sale. Rodeos are one of the scarcest and most distinctive of all 1950s regional food issues. This sheet presents twenty-five of the thirty-eight different players in the 1955 Rodeo Meats set, and in a condition that would probably be impossible to find as individual cards. Rodeo Meats cards are almost always found in mid-grade at best, as they were issued one card per package with Rodeo Meats. The fact that these cards were never cut and packaged, and the sheet was miraculously preserved, has resulted in this extraordinary presentation of twenty-five uncut high-grade cards. The sheet measures 13.5 x 17.75 inches. Beautifully framed and matted to dimensions of 19 x 25 inches, with double-sided glass to allow for viewing the reverse of the sheet if desired. One of the few, and best, regional issue sheets in existence, extremely attractive, and very possibly unique. Near Mint condition. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,812.50
