1968 Topps #280 Mickey Mantle PSA MINT 9
Starting Bid - $400.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Blazing card, with no chipping whatsoever to the "grain" borders, a perfect reverse, and four pack-fresh corners. This card looks like it jumped right out of a pack and into the PSA MINT 9 holder! This has always been one of our favorite Mantle cards. He was still playing, he was the card "to get" on the playgrounds in 1969, and his record was so long that there was only room for "Mickey holds a World Series mark of 18 homers!" above his statistics on the back of the card. Looking at the then-total of 518 home runs on the reverse, every kid in 1969 with this card knew they were holding greatness. 1968 Topps cards typically suffer from a variety of condition problems, including print defects and a tendency to easily wear along the borders, which make Mint examples particularly difficult to find. As of this writing, the PSA population report shows that an almost incredible 4,284 examples of this card have been graded to date. Of these, however, only 105 have graded PSA MINT 9, with only eight PSA 10 examples ever graded. This is an exceptional high-grade example of one of Mantle's most popular cards. SMR value is $1,450. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200+. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
