1921 Babe Ruth Autographed Exhibit Card (PSA/DNA)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $5,581.25

1921 Exhibit card of Babe Ruth, signed in black fountain pen across his image. This is an incredible rarity! Ruth's 1921 Exhibit card is a classic all by itself but we can't imagine that too many signed examples exist. This is the first example we have ever offered. Ruth’s signature has been boldly penned, grading “9.” Although the card dates from 1921, the fact that Ruth has not added parenthesis around “Babe” indicates that it was probably signed at least a few years later. (Ruth stopped adding parenthesis around “Babe” sometime after 1927.) The card itself was given a technically accurate grade of Good 2 by PSA. It looks much nicer but has been downgraded due to a small area of surface paper loss on the reverse from a piece of tape which was long ago removed and some very light staining at the perimeter of the card. None of the card’s flaws, however, has seriously detracted from its extraordinary overall visual appeal and it remains a most exceptional Ruth signed piece. Ruth was the most prolific signer in sports history, but his signature is seldom found on Exhibit cards, making this a rare Ruth signed item as well. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $5,581.25
