1930 Mickey Cochrane All America Baseball Team Certificate Signed By Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $2,000.00 , Sold For - $10,575.00

There are few, if any, more impressive Ruth-signed items than a full signature (George H. "Babe" Ruth) All America Board of Baseball Award Certificate. Presented is an ideal example, as good as it gets, presented to Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane by Babe Ruth personally in 1930. During the late 1920s, promotional whiz Christy Walsh, who was also Babe Ruth's agent, came up with the idea of creating the All America Board of Baseball. The idea was for the board to formally recognize and honor the greatest players of the game at each position each year. Walsh appointed Babe Ruth as Chairman of the board and each year it took great pride in selecting an All America Baseball Team from the ranks of the Major Leagues. The selection of the All America Baseball Team was made by Ruth and a panel of ten sportswriters (one sportswriter from each Major League city), with recipients receiving an extremely impressive certificate signed by Ruth and the panel of sportswriters. Each player also received a colorful red, white, and blue sweater. Offered here is the All America Baseball Team certificate issued to Mickey Cochrane in 1930. The certificate, printed in grand calligraphic style, is dated September 6, 1930, and has been magnificently signed in black fountain pen (grading "9") by "George H. 'Babe' Ruth" and the ten respective sportswriters on the board. The original seal and ribbon remain intact and perfectly affixed in the lower left (these seals and ribbons are often damaged or missing). The certificate measures 13.5 x 16.5 inches and is in Near Mint condition. These certificates, because of their extraordinary display value, the fact that they were a prestigious award issued to players, and the fact that they often feature a rare full-name signature of Ruth, have always been extremely popular with collectors. The fact that this certificate was issued to Mickey Cochrane, a Hall of Famer, makes this an all the more significant and outstanding example of one of the collecting world's most highly prized Babe Ruth signed items. Perfect in all respects. This is a particularly exceptional Ruth signed display piece, dating from the heart of his active playing career, that would be a highlight in many different types of collections. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 21 x 24 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $10,575.00
