Walter Johnson Autographed Letter Signed

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,645.00

One-page handwritten letter, penned in black fountain pen, signed by baseball's legendary, "Big Train" Walter Johnson. The undated letter is addressed simply "Dear Jack" and reads in full: "Thanks for your letter and I hope I will see you some of these days. Sincerely, Walter Johnson." Both the text and signature have been boldly scripted and grade "9/10." Johnson, who passed away in 1946, was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame and his signature today, especially in the form of a handwritten letter, is highly prized by collectors. The letter has been handsomely matted and framed together with a non-vintage 8 x 10-inch photo of Johnson for optimal display. We have not examined the letter (5.5 x 4.5 inches, visible portion) out of frame, but close examination reveals that Johnson's reply is written directly on the reverse of Jack's original letter (a lengthy amount of text on the reverse is slightly visible from the front of the letter). The letter is in apparent Excellent to Mint condition and the entire framed display measures 20 x 15 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
