Circa 1940s J. Honus Wagner Signed Photograph
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,175.00
This striking photo, most likely dating from the mid 1940s, captures Honus Wagner in a familiar position: seated at home in his easy chair recalling his glory days with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner, who is pictured holding two of his old game bats, was known for his colorful baseball anecdotes and he is no doubt recalling here the many hits and home runs each bat bore witness to. Wagner has signed the photo in black fountain pen ("J. Honus Wagner") along the length of one of the bats. The signature is boldly scripted, grading "9/10," and the signature contrasts extremely well against the light backdrop of the bat. The photo (7.5 x 6.5 inches) displays a few extremely tiny surface wrinkles (only visible when viewed at certain angles) and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 14 x 13 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
