1949 Ty Cobb Signed Check - PSA/DNA Gem Mint 10
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $1,410.00
Ty Cobb personal check, dated July 10, 1949, signed in black ink by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” Encapsulated and graded “GEM MT 10” by PSA/DNA (grade reflects the signature only). The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Nevada, features Ty Cobb’s preprinted name along the left front border and has been made out to “Cash” in the amount of $300.00. The stamped endorsement of “The Senator” Kenneth F. Johnson appears on the reverse. Kenneth F. Johnson was President Pro Tempore of the Nevada State Senate in 1949. While there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made hundreds available after his passing), a Cobb check is always a classic, and this is a particularly outstanding example with an absolutely flawless signature. The check (8.25 x 3 inches) has three typical light vertical folds, as well as standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
