1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Tom Daly
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $705.00
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Highest-graded example! Tom Daly, second baseman of the Brooklyn Nationals, dressed in street clothes. The fact that so few Mayos of Daly have been graded in any condition (a total of only twelve examples) suggests that this card may be considerably rarer than many other cards in the set. Bright and perfectly clean, with light wear to the corners and top border, and no creases. Centered approximately 25/75 left to right. Daly played sixteen seasons in the Major Leagues. He was the only catcher on the Chicago club that made Spalding’s World Tour of 1888-89. When traded to Brooklyn he moved to the infield and played mostly second base after 1892. A very attractive street clothes style Mayo of a very noteworthy player from the nineteenth century. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $705.00
