1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Brickyard Kennedy
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $822.50
Graded VG 40 by SGC. Brooklyn Grooms pitcher William "Brickyard" Kennedy. This is a very sharp-looking card with a strong Ex-Mt appearance, that has been downgraded by SGC solely due to light glue mark remnants on the reverse (which are clearly there but are not particularly distracting). Kennedy was a star pitcher with Brooklyn throughout the 1890s, including winning 25 and 24 games respectively in 1893 and 1894. In 1903 Kennedy pitched shutout ball for the first five innings of Game 5 of the 1903 World Series against Boston's Cy Young, before Pittsburgh fell apart, making four errors, and losing 11-2. That was Kennedy's last game ever. He retired immediately after. This is a very striking Mayo, a gorgeous card with virtually no white showing on the borders, and with the appearance of an Ex-Mt example. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $822.50
