1957 Cleveland Indians Team-Signed Baseball - Roger Maris' Rookie Season
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $411.25
When Roger Maris signed this team ball his future looked bright but no one could have foreseen the dramatic impact he would have on the game in just a few short years. This 1957 Cleveland Indians team-signed ball dates from Roger Maris’ rookie season and features the blue-ink signatures of twenty-nine team members. The signatures adorning the official American League (Harridge) ball are those of Maris (“7”), Carrasquel (sweet spot), Farrell (sweet spot, Mgr.), Caffie, Harder (coach), Naragon, Lemon, Daley, Avila, Valentinetti, Hegan, Nixon, Strickland, Woodling, Wynn, Raines, Colavito, Narleski, Pitula, Altobelli, Tomanek, Stanky (coach), Wertz, Kress (coach), Mossi, and four others (illegible). Twelve of the signatures grade between “7” and “9,” while the remainder, penned in a different shade of blue ink, are all moderately faded and range between “2” and “6,” averaging “5.” Maris appeared in 116 games with the Indians in 1957, batting .235 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI. Those numbers hardly hinted at his future accomplishments, which would include two consecutive MVP Awards with the Yankees and his now legendary record-setting home run performance of 1961. The ball is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $411.25
