Circa 1960s Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $6,462.50
Presented here is a very early and particularly outstanding high-grade example of one of the most desirable dual-signed pieces in the hobby: a Mantle and Maris signed baseball. Both players have scripted their names in blue ink on this creamy white official American League (Cronin) ball. Mantle’s signature sits perfectly centered on the sweet spot and grades “9/10,” while Maris’ signature is positioned on the base of the north panel and grades “8/9.” Maris was always insistent that the sweet spot be reserved for Mantle on any ball the two signed together. Although it is impossible to know for certain, the signatures on this ball (with manufacturing stampings which date it to between 1959 to 1973) appear to date from the 1960s, and it was probably signed during each player’s active playing career, thus further distinguishing it from the later-day Mantle/Maris balls signed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This is an extraordinary example. Aside from the manufacturer’s label having slightly faded (still perfectly legible) the ball is in phenomenal Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $6,462.50
