1961 Topps Baseball Card #44 A. L. Home Run Leaders- Signed by Mantle, Maris, and Colavito

Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $940.00

1961 Topps baseball card (#44) of the 1960 American League Home Run Leaders, signed in vintage blue ink by three of the four players featured on the card: Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Rocky Colavito (Jim Lemon is the fourth player pictured). Both the Mantle and Maris signatures grade “9/10.” The Colavito signature grades “8/9.” Mantle was the league leader in home runs in 1960 with forty, while Maris finished second with thirty-nine. In 1961 the famed “M&M Boys” upped the ante and waged an historic home run duel that culminated in Maris breaking Ruth’s long-standing single-season home run record of sixty. This card dates from that historic 1961 season and may very well have been signed by the duo during that year, as the signatures are definitely of that approximate vintage. Autographed baseball cards have always been a popular area of collecting; however, the demand for 1950s and 1960s era signed cards far exceeds the supply. Any baseball card signed by either Maris or Mantle is highly prized by collectors today, and this particular card, signed by both, is an especially great rarity. This is the first Mantle-Maris signed example of this classic card we have ever offered. The card is in Very Good to Excellent condition and has been encapsulated by GAI. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $940.00
