Collection of Five Multisigned Baseball Items Including the Signatures of Cobb, Mantle, Maris, Clemente, and Jackie Robinson
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350
Collection of five signed items (four programs plus one photograph), each featuring numerous signatures, including many notable Hall of Famers and stars. 1) Black-and-white photo of Milwaukee Braves manager Fred Haney, issued in 1958, signed in green ink by Ty Cobb and in blue ink by Fred Haney and Casey Stengel. This photo was issued as a souvenir to attendees at the Fred Haney testimonial dinner held at the Westwood Shrine Club on January 1, 1958 (as noted in print along the base of the photo). It is probable that Cobb and Stengel were in attendance that night, hence the unusual trio of signatures. All of the signatures grade a perfect ‘10’ and the photo (5 x 7.25 inches) is in Excellent condition. 2) 1964 Kansas City Athletics program (vs. New York Yankees) signed on the cover in blue ink (grading ‘8/9’) by the following thirteen members of the New York Yankees: Mantle (‘9’), Maris (‘8’), Berra, Howard, Pepitone, Bouton, Terry, Linz, Kubek, Lopez, Stottlemyre, Stafford, and Downing. The blue-ink notation ‘signed: May 6th 1964’ appears along the base of the front cover. The program (7 x 10 inches) has four notebook holes punched along the left border, a vertical center fold, minor tears, and glue residue on the back cover from having once been mounted in an album. In Good to Very Good condition. 3) 1955 St. Louis Cardinals scorecard (vs. Brooklyn) signed on the cover in pencil (grading ‘10’) by the following five players: Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, Bill Virdon, and Harry Walker. The fold-over scorecard (7.5 x 11 inches) is not scored and remains in Excellent condition. 4) 1956 St. Louis Cardinals scorecard (vs. Pittsburgh) signed on the cover in pencil by Roberto Clemente (signed "Bob Clemente"), Bill Virdon, and Jackie Price ("The Clown Prince of Baseball" ). Clemente's signature grades "9/10" while the other two grade "7/8." The fold-over scorecard (7.5 x 11 inches) is scored in ink and has two small pieces of clear tape on the back cover from having once been mounted and framed. Vg-Ex. LOA from James Spence/JSA. 5) 1958 St. Louis Cardinals scorecard (vs. Los Angeles) signed on the cover in pencil (grading "9") by Curt Flood, Ken Boyer, Wally Moon, Ed Kasko, Hal Smith, Joe Pignatano, and two others (illegible). The fold-over scorecard (7.5 x 11 inches) is scored in pencil and has two pieces of clear tape on the back cover from having once been mounted and framed. Vg-Ex. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
