Pair of Multisigned Baseballs with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris (Ex-Whitey Ford Collection)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,998

Each of these two official American League (MacPhail) balls has been signed in either blue or black ink by five key members of the New York Yankees' 1960s dynasty: Mickey Mantle (on the sweet spot of both), Roger Maris, Whitey Ford, Elston Howard, and Hector Lopez. While the combination of Mantle and Maris on any ball is cause for celebration in collecting circles, these ball are even more desirable due to their unique provenance: each originates directly from the personal collection of the legendary "Chairman of the Board," Whitey Ford. They were sold by Ford in 2008 at a special, highly publicized live auction featuring Ford's personal collection that was held in conjunction with the Major League All-Star Game. Our consignor purchased them directly from that sale. All of the signatures on each ball occupy a separate panel. Ball One: Mantle ("6"), Maris ("8"), Ford ("8"), Howard ("9"), and Lopez ("9"). Nr-Mt, with just the slightest hint of age toning. Ball Two: Mantle ("6"), Maris ("6"), Ford ("6/7"), Howard ("9/10"), and Lopez ("10"). Ex-Mt, with light-to-moderate age toning. Accompanied by COAs from Whitey Ford. Additional LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,998
