2001 Upper Deck Bat and Uniform Cards (14)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,528

Collection of fourteen Upper Deck cards featuring actual pieces of either a player's game-used bat or game-worn jersey. Upper Deck created quite a stir when it began incorporating pieces of memorabilia into its card issues. Purists decried the practice of destroying historical artifacts for the sake of promotion. The majority of collectors, however, were delighted with the company's innovative creation. The current market prices for Hall of Fame jerseys and game-used bats are well beyond the means of most collectors; however, with these cards fans were able to own, in some small way, a piece of history that was previously unobtainable. This collection is comprised of cards featuring bat pieces from either one or two players, and jersey swatches from individual players. Cards are listed by year of issue. The card's limitation number (if provided) and designation is listed in parentheses. 2001 SP Legendary Cuts - Combo Bat Cards: Hank Aaron & Babe Ruth ("21/25," "HA-BR"), Lou Boudreau & Bob Feller ("21/25," "LB-BF"), Ty Cobb & Charlie Gehringer ("19/25," "TC-CG"), Tony Oliva & Roberto Clemente ("7/25," "TO-RC"), Mel Ott & Joe DiMaggio (3/25," "MO-JD"), Nolan Ryan & Bob Feller ("8/25," "NR-BF"), Ryne Sandberg & Andre Dawson ("23/25," "RS-AD"), George Sisler & Bill Terry ("20/25," "GS-BT"), and Hack Wilson & Billy Herman ("4/25," "HW-BH"). 2001 SP Legendary Cuts - Bat Cards: Roberto Clemente ("B-RCl"), Kiki Cuyler ("B-KC"), and Joe DiMaggio ("B-JD"). 2001 SP Legendary Cuts - Game Jersey Cards: Yogi Berra ("J-YB") and Honus Wagner ("J-HW").
