Mickey Mantle Regular-Season Home-Run Ticket Stub Collection (9)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $411

Collection of nine New York Yankees regular-season ticket stubs, spanning the years 1953 through 1956, each from a game in which Mickey Mantle hit one or more home runs. The tickets are listed by year, with both Mantle’s career home run number(s) and opposing pitcher duly noted for each. 1953: May 25th (career HR #42, off Ellis Kinder of Boston); June 21st (career HR #47, off Hal Newhouser of Detroit). 1955: September 2nd (career HR #120, off Bob Porterfield of Washington); and September 4th (career HR #121, off Pedro Ramos of Washington). 1956: April 20th (Opening Day at Yankee Stadium, career HR #124, off Ike Delock of Boston); April 21st (career HR #125, off George Susce of Boston); May 1st (career HR #126, off Steve Gromek of Detroit); May 5th (two home runs, career HRs #129 and 130, the first off Lou Kretlow and the second off Moe Burtschy, both of Kansas City); and July 1st (two home runs, one lefty and one righty, career HRs #149 and 150, the first off Dean Stone and the second off Bud Byerly, both of Washington). The collecting of Mantle regular-season home-run ticket stubs represents a fairly recent, but burgeoning, field in our hobby. Unfortunately, regular-season ticket stubs, unlike those for special events such as All-Star or World Series games, are quite scarce due to the fact that fans normally just throw them out after a game. (Extraordinary performances or special occasions, such as a no-hitter or a player’s 500th home run are the exception to the rule.) Therefore, the pursuit of Mantle regular-season home-run ticket stubs will represent a lifelong challenge for most. While we are not aware of any collection featuring a complete run of Mantle regular-season home run tickets, time and persistence have always been the collector’s allies and this offering will surely help one lucky collector inch ever closer to that ultimate goal. All of the tickets measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. Seven of the nine tickets display a single punch hole and six display surface paper and/or adhesive residue on the reverse from having once been mounted. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 9 ticket stubs. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+ SOLD FOR $411
