1999 New York Yankees World Series Ring

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $21,150

Rare New York Yankees World Series ring, issued to a team employee, commemorating the club's 1999 World Championship season. The 14K gold ring, produced by Balfour, is one of the most impressive and generously diamond-studded rings ever produced. Twenty-five small diamonds decorate the team's familiar "NY" logo on the front, which in turn rests upon a similarly fashioned blue stone. An additional approximately forty-eight small diamonds surround the logo. The year "1999" is displayed on the ring's bezel. The ornately designed right shank features the employee's name, "Becker," a design incorporating Yankee Stadium, the World Series Trophy, and the number "25" (referencing the club's 25th World Championship), and the word "Tradition." The left shank is equally exquisite and features the Yankees' familiar "Top Hat" logo entwined with a banner that reads "The Century's Team," a portion of the famed Yankee Stadium facade, and the words "25th World Championship." The weight of the gold, “14K,” and the manufacturer’s name, “Balfour,” are each engraved along the interior band. This ring was originally presented to Michael Becker, who was the former director of security at Legend's Field in Tampa, Florida, and is accompanied by a one-page signed letter from him attesting to its provenance. Also included is a 2000 Yankees yearbook that confirms Becker's position with the Yankees at the time (he is both listed and pictured with the other Legend's Field staff). The 1999 World Series victory by the Yankees marked a historic milestone for the legendary "Bronx Bombers," as it was the club's 25th World Championship in franchise history, a Major League record. It was also the team's third World Championship in four years, thus firmly establishing the Yankees not only as the team of the decade, but the team of the century as well. New York Yankees World Series rings from the 1990s are very rarely seen on the open market and this is only the third we have ever offered. (Coincidently, both of the other two, one from 1996 and one from 1998, are also in this auction.) Most modern-era World Series rings are forever prized as special family keepsakes by extremely well paid players who have no economic incentive to ever part with them. The offering of an employee ring, such as this example, is a very rare exception. This is an exceptional Yankees World Series ring with extraordinary documented provenance, dating from the club's final World Championship of the century. Size: approximately 10. Near Mint condition. The original wood presentation case accompanies. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $21,150
