1959 Bob Hale Baltimore Orioles Game-Used Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880
Baltimore Orioles home jersey worn by first baseman Bob Hale in 1959. The zipper-front white flannel jersey is lettered "Orioles" across the front and features the number "10" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in orange on black felt. An Orioles team patch adorns the left sleeve. Both the uniform number and year ("10-1959") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag located in the collar. A "Wilson 44" tag appears on the left front tail. The original Orioles team patch on the left sleeve has been removed and replaced with a reproduction patch; otherwise the jersey is completely original, with no other alterations. Heavy wear is displayed throughout the garment and the zipper is fully functional. Hale appeared in forty games with the Orioles in 1959, finishing the year with a .185 average, no home runs, and 7 RBI. Graded A9 by MEARS (10 point base grade, with 1 point deducted for the replacement of the original patch). This is one of only four 1950s Baltimore Orioles jerseys listed in the MEARS census; one other is graded at this level and two are graded higher. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator Troy Kinunen. LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/1,500. SOLD FOR $1,880
