1973 Jim McAndrew New York Mets Signed Game-Used Home Jersey

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,410

New York Mets home jersey worn by pitcher Jim McAndrew during the club’s pennant-winning season of 1973. All Mets jerseys from this early era are extremely desirable but a jersey from this magic championship year is all the greater a prize. The white pinstripe knit jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "43" on both the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliqued in blue on orange tackle twill. A New York Mets team patch adorns the left sleeve. The size, year, and jersey number ("42 73 43") are chain-stitched in blue upon a white strip tag located in the collar. A "Rawlings "42" label is is situated on the right front tail. McAndrew has signed the jersey in blue Sharpie (grading "8/9") directly below the number on the front. The jersey is missing two buttons and displays a small one-inch tear on the front, just to the left of the collar, and a small tear on the reverse numeral “4.” Aside from the two missing buttons, the jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays heavy wear throughout. Jim McAndrew appeared in twenty-three games with the Mets in 1973, finishing the year with a record of 3-8, with one save, and a 5.38 ERA. He retired after the 1974 season with a career record of 37-53. Graded A8.5 by MEARS (10 point base grade, with 1 point deducted for the two missing buttons and a half point deducted for the tear on the reverse numeral). This is one of only four 1973 New York Mets jerseys listed in the MEARS census, and is the finest and highest graded of these few authentic 1973 Mets jerseys examples, with no others graded at this level and none graded higher. LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,410
