1935 R331 National Chicle #22 "Shipwreck" Kelley - SGC MINT 96

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,645

Graded MINT 96 by SGC. Highest graded! Offered is a magnificent ultra-high grade example of card #22 “Shipwreck” Kelley, Brooklyn Dodgers halfback, from the 1935 R331 National Chicle Football card set. It is interesting to note that the text on the back of this card reports that Kelley preferred not to wear a helmet during games (in the early days of football helmets were optional at the players discretion) as pictured on the front of this card. The card exhibits bold, bright colors, four razor-sharp corners, perfect registration, a flawless surface, and is centered a hint to the top. Perfectly crisp and clean, both front and back. Essentially unimprovable. It is MINT! This card is from the Charlie Conlon Collection and is being offered separately from the rest of his National Chicle Football set due to its extraordinary high grade. This card was submitted for grading by REA. This is a world-class ultra high-grade example of this classic 1930s bubble-gum football card, worthy of the finest R331 National Chicle collection or set. The equivalent SMR value is $2,200. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,645
