1935 R331 National Chicle Football Near-Complete SGC-Graded Set (31 of 36)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $15,275

Outstanding ultra high-grade near-complete set of 1935 R331 National Chicle Football includes 31 different of the 36 cards in the set, highlighted by Knute Rockne and Bronko Nagurski. Missing only #16, 22, 26, 30, and 35 for completion. All thirty-one cards have been encapsulated and graded by SGC (all submitted by REA). Eleven cards range in grade from Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, eleven are Ex-Mt, four are Ex, three are Vg-Ex, one is Vg, and one is Authentic. The SGC grades are as follows: One NM/MT+ 92: #17. One NM/MT 88: #25 (high #). Nine NM 84: #3, 5, 6, 8, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 31 (high #). Eleven EX/NM 80: #1 Clark RC (HOF), 4, 9 Rockne (HOF, centered 20/80 L/R, with sharp corners, flawless colors, and perfect registration), 11 Edwards RC (HOF), 12, 13, 23 Feathers, 24 Hinkle RC (HOF), 28 (high #), 33 (high #), and 36 Masterson (last card in set). Two EX+ 70: #2 and 10 Battles RC (HOF). Two EX 60: #29 (high #) and 32 (high #). Three VG/EX 50: #7 Strong RC (HOF), 18, and 19. One VG 40: #27 (high #). One Authentic: #34 Nagurski RC (HOF, this card could not receive a numerical grade because of evidence of a pinhole filled in, it otherwise has a Vg appearance). This is a very sharp-looking, carefully assembled overall very high-grade near-set of the most desirable 1930s football issue, with many cards appearing far better than suggested by their very respectable, technically accurate grades. The equivalent total SMR for the assigned grades (not including the authentic Nagurski) is $13,610. Accompanying the set is the extremely rare National Chicle Football wrapper (Vg condition). From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 32 items (31 cards and 1 wrapper). Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $15,275
