1989-1990 Magic Johnson Signed Los Angeles Lakers Sneakers
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,528
Pair of size 14 Converse sneakers (size tag is stamped "Sample 14') produced exclusively for use by Magic Johnson as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. The white sneakers, with purple and gold trim, feature the name "Magic" either factory stamped, embroidered, or in raised relief, on five separate areas of each shoe (heel, left and right areas outside the tongue, the tongue itself, and the bottom). Johnson has signed each shoe in blue Sharpie (grading "7," slight bleeding to each) on the outside of each heel. Our consignor originally purchased these shoes in 2001 from Mike Schlotter, a former Golden State Warriors ball boy, and they are accompanied by a copy of a COA issued by Schlotter as well as a copy of a newspaper article reporting on Schlotter's vast NBA memorabilia collection. Based upon the available photo evidence, these shoes date from the 1989-1990 season. Johnson averaged 22.3 points per game (second-highest season average of his career) and 11.5 assist that year in leading the Lakers to a 63-19 record and a first-place finish in the Pacific Division. Over the course of his thirteen-year career, Johnson led the Lakers to nine NBA Finals and five World Championships. Numbered among his many honors and achievements are three League MVP Awards, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, and twelve All-Star Game appearance. In 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. This is the first pair of Magic Johnson sneakers we have ever offered. LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800.
