1887 N77 Duke "Gymnastic Exercises" SGC-Graded Complete Set (25)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,058

Complete set of twenty-five 1887 N77 Duke "Gymnastic Exercises" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC. Presented is a very attractive high-grade complete set of these rare and colorful nineteenth-century tobacco cards, with eighteen cards ranging from Vg-Ex to Nr/Mt, four Vg, and three Gd. Duke Tobacco cards in general are far rarer than cards issued by many other tobacco companies such as Allen & Ginter. Duke's "Gymnastic Exercises" cards, in particular, are very scarce. This is the first complete set we can ever recall offering. The complete SGC condition composite follows: One NM 84: Leg Swing. Four EX/NM 80: Forward Wheel, Hanging by Toes, Saddle Vaulting, and Swing and Snap Up. Four EX 60: Back Wheel, Flying Rings, Outside Hand Vault, and Slanting Ladder. Nine VG/EX 50: Backward Knee Swing, Giant Swing, Parallel Bar - Handspring, Parallel Bar - Vaulting, Rope Climbing, Rope Walking, Slow Pull Up, The Foot Hang, and Trapeze Flying Jump. Four VG 40: Double Arm Swing, Dumb Bells, Parallel Bar - Walking, and Roll Over. Three GOOD 30: Fencing, Flying Trapeze Leg, and Indian Clubs. Issued with Duke's Cigarettes, each card features a colorful, graphically detailed lithographic image relating to the sport of gymnastics. This is an extremely attractive set with outstanding eye-appeal. Duke's “Gymnastic Exercises” is rarely offered as a complete set. Total 25 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,058
