1930s F277-4 Heinz Famous Aviators #7 Hughes and #9 Hawks

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,998

Two key rare cards from the F277-4 “Famous Aviators” series issued by the Heinz Company in the 1930s: #7 Howard Hughes and #9 Frank Hawks. The F277-4 Howard Hughes card, in particular, is legendary as one of the key rarities of all 1930s nonsport cards. The fact that Howard Hughes was a famous aviator earned him a place in this set; the fact that the subject of this card is one of the most mythical and elusive of all figures in popular culture seems fitting for such an extreme and wel- known nonsport-card rarity. Both have been graded EX 60 by SGC. Each card has a crisp, strong image with brilliant colors, light wear on the corners, and a perfectly clean reverse. These two cards are beauties! This is an impressive pair of top-quality nonsport cards from the Heinz Company “Famous Aviators” series, highlighted by an outstanding high-grade example of the extremely rare and significant Howard Hughes card. Total 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,998
