Offered is a complete set of ten circa 1890 Gail & Ax’s Little Joker tobacco “Baron Muchausen” large cards, one of the rarest and most unusual of all nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card sets. These are so rare they are virtually unknown in the nonsport card-collecting field. This is the first complete set we have ever seen. This is one of those unusual nonsport tobacco card sets which stand out as rare to even the most seasoned veteran collector. This exceptionally colorful large-card set was issued to promote the Little Joker tobacco brand. Each card features an extremely colorful and detailed lithographic scene relating to a fictional character named Baron Muchausen and the Gail & Ax Little Joker mascot character, with a package of Little Joker Smoking Tobacco superimposed in the foreground of the illustration. The back of each card features a poem related to the scene pictured on the front. The production quality of this set is outstanding. This is an extremely attractive set with outstanding eye-appeal.
