1933 R73 Goudey Indian Gum Complete Set (216): #1 SGC Set Registry

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $12,925

Presented is the finest complete set of 1933 R73 Goudey Indian Gum cards we have ever offered. This is a gorgeous set! Goudey Indian Gum is one of the most popular and difficult to complete of all the 1930s gum-card issues. Advanced collectors are well aware that Indian Gum cards are far more difficult to collect in high grade than baseball cards of the era, in part because they are rarer. Goudey's 1933 R73 "Indian Gum" series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, and popular subject matter, all contribute to making this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. This outstanding high-grade set was assembled many years ago by a extremely condition-conscious connoisseur of 1930s nonsports cards. This set was consigned to REA ungraded, and was submitted for grading by REA. The entire set of 216 cards has been graded and encapsulated by SGC. Ninety cards range in grade from EX-MT to NR/MT-MT (including one NM/MT+ 92, eight NM/MT 88, five NM+ 86, thirty-seven NM 84, and thirty-nine EX/NM 80), ninety-five cards range from VG-Ex to Ex, and thirty-one cards are VG and slightly lesser. The complete SGC condition composite follows: One NM/MT+ 92: #21. Eight NM/MT 88: #31, 37, 60 Buffalo Bill, 167, 168, 181, 185, and 193. Five NM+ 86: #50 Boone, 125, 126, 135, and 154 Lugaiot. Thirty-seven NM 84: #27, 30, 32, 33, 35, 36, 39, 40, 43, 45, 47, 49, 54, 61 Houston, 62, 63, 65, 66, 69, 72, 93, 100, 101, 104, 106, 119, 120, 128, 130, 132, 139, 151, 169, 171, 183, 209, and 212. Two Authentic: #4 and 210. This is a remarkable set. The assembly of a set of this caliber is particularly extraordinary. This is a world-class assemblage of one of the most popular, substantial, and desirable of all 1930s gum-card sets. The equivalent SMR value for 185 of the 216 graded cards in this set (not including the thirty-one Vg and slightly lesser grades) is $9,090, but we would not be surprised if the market valued this set at a premium to SMR. Total 216 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $12,925
