This is a beautiful, very carefully assembled set. Most cards are both sharp and extremely clean. The complete PSA condition composite follows: One MINT 9 (OC): #91. Twenty-six NM-MT 8: #2, 8, 9, 12, 16, 21, 23, 26 (OC), 34 (OC), 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 52 (OC), 53, 54, 57 (OC), 61, 74, 77, 78, 80, 93, and 95 (OC). Nine NM 7: #13, 31 (OC), 50, 51, 62, 81, 86, 89, and 94. The balance of the cards are in similar high-grade to the selection of thirty-six PSA-graded cards. Fleer's "Three Stooges" set was issued when the Stooges' movie shorts were being introduced for the first time to a new generation of youngsters on television. The exposure revitalized their careers, giving them a second chance to entertain millions. This second shot of stardom was even greater than what they had experienced in the 1930s and 1940s, and ingrained the Stooges' comedy into the consciousness of America and popular culture. Naturally, many products were produced to capitalize on this stardom, including this set of bubble-gum cards. Their shorts, which were originally produced to be shown as bonuses with feature films at movie theaters, are still shown on television today, ensuring a legion of new fans in each generation, and promoting The Stooges' status as American icons of comedy. This is a very attractive and clean complete set of this classic 1950s nonsport issue. The SMR value for just 29 of the 36 graded cards (not including the seven qualified PSA graded cards or the sixty ungraded cards) is $2,380. Total 96 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
