1964 Topps "Nutty Awards" Complete SGC-Graded Set (32)
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $294
Extremely high grade complete set of one of the 1960s' most striking and unusual nonsport issues: 1964 Topps "Nutty Awards." This may not be the most expensive set of the era, or the auction, but it's hard not to appreciate the exceptional quality of this overlooked early 1960s Topps nonsport issue. This set is one of several high-quality Topps card issues of the early 1960s featuring artwork and humor reminiscent of Mad Magazine. Each card (3-1/8 x 5-1/4 inches) has a colorful artwork front with a humorous award or license (for instance "Idiot Award" or "Back Seat Driver's License") and a traditional postcard reverse. Nutty Awards is a classic among the irreverent sets issued by Topps in the 1960s, and captures the spirit of the time. The entire set of thirty-two cards has been graded and encapsulated by SGC. The complete SGC condition composite follows: Four MINT 96: #13, 22, 24, and 27. Four NM/MT+ 92: #6, 12, 18, and 30. Seven NM/MT 88: #4, 7, 10, 15, 17, 29, and 31. Four NM+ 86: #2, 11, 16, and 32. Nine NM 84: #1, 8, 9, 14, 19, 20, 23, 25, and 28. Three EX/NM 80: #3, 5, and 21. One EX 60: #26. This is a tremendous ultra high-grade complete set of this very substantial and classic nonsport card set. Total 32 cards. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $294
