1966 Topps "Monster Laffs" Unopened Cello Box - GAI NM 7 (36 Packs)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705

Graded NM 7 by GAI. High-grade example of this original unopened cello box of 1966 Topps "Monster Laffs." The box houses thirty-six cello packs, with each pack containing 12 cards, for a total of 432 cards. From the late 1950s through the 1960s, cards with designs spoofing monsters were extremely popular on playgrounds throughout the country. Monsters were "in." Irreverent humor was "in." It was only natural that "Monster Laffs," cards featuring stills from "B" monster movies with jokes on the back and gags lines on the front, would find an audience. This is a complete never-touched 53-year-old cello box that somehow escaped opening and playing. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, it would be hard to imagine that this box does not include a generous supply of Mint 9s and Gem Mint 10s. This perfectly preserved unopened cello box, with thirty-six Mint 12-card cello packs, looks exactly as it did when it was intended to be placed on a candy-store shelf in 1966, and somehow escaped. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $705
