Circa 1934 "Covered Wagon Pictures" Unopened Box Pack
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $411
Extraordinary never-before-seen complete one-cent box of Covered Wagon candy lozenges, issued by the Pecheur Lozenge Company of Brooklyn, New York, featuring front and back package design cards. The two cards are intended to be hand-cut from the box. The side of the box panels instruct kids to "Cut out Covered Wagon Pictures" and "Collect 40 Covered Wagon Pictures." The front card, numbered "5," pictures "Buffalo Bill - Indian Fighter," while the back card, numbered "6," is titled "Sacred War Clubs." While collectors may have come across other cards from this set, they most likely had no knowledge of their origin or who issued them, until now. It is a virtual certainty that this is the only surviving complete-as-issued box of this rare set in existence! Even more incredible is that the box is in near-pristine condition and still houses the original two candy lozenges which were packaged inside. The lozenges themselves are amazing collectibles in that they feature, respectively, the likeness of Buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull on the front. Both the lozenges and box (2.25 x 3 x .25 inches) are in virtually perfect condition, looking exactly as they did as when originally issued. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $411
